Daring to Be Your Authentic Self

Brené Brown’s TED Talk on The Power of Vulnerability will likely charm you, make you laugh and maybe help you relax into showing others the person you truly are – your authentic self.  This talk comes from her decade of research on vulnerability, courage, worthiness and shame. As she says, “Staying vulnerable is a risk we have to take if we want to experience connection.”

If this video speaks to you, you might also want to look at her book The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are.

The ancient Sanskrit chant  — oḿ pūrṇam adaḥ pūrṇam idaḿ pūrṇāt pūrṇam udacyate pūrṇasya pūrṇam ādāya pūrṇam evāvaśiṣyate — is about the perfection in everything – just as it is. In Sanskrit script it looks like this: ॐ पूर्णमदः पूर्णमिदं पूर्णात्पुर्णमुदच्यते पूर्णश्य पूर्णमादाय पूर्णमेवावशिष्यते ॥ ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥ A meaning of this lovely chant is that everything in the universe, including ourselves, is inherently perfect just as it is – we just need to tap into that perfection.

Here’s a beautiful recording of the om purnamadah chant sung by Shantala.
